Waterlooville Motorcycle Club hosted the 2021 ACU British Upright Grasstrack Championship this past weekend as well as the prestigious Southern Centre Championship.
The Whaddon Farm venue has been a firm favourite for years in the British grasstrack scene and lived up to its reputation with a fantastic day of racing.
A stacked field of riders set upon the Hampshire circuit looking to collect the first domestic silverware of 2021 and were greeted to a perfectly prepared oval, despite rain in the days leading to the event.
In the 250cc upright class the evergreen Chris Mackett completed a hat-trick of titles having won the last two occasions this title has been raced for.
Luke Harris continued his dominance in the 350cc class with his fourth title win in five years. The Northolt man topped the end of day podium ahead of Chris Malone and Tim Neal.
Tony Atkin produced an unbeaten scorecard on his way to the 500cc upright title, 28 years after his first British title in 1993.
As well as the British honours up for grabs there was also the Southern Centre Championships, running its 90th anniversary event.
Cameron Taylor – in first first full season of adult racing – continued his amazing start to the 2021 season taking the 250cc class victory ahead of former British Champion, Graham Thomas.
John Cox was crowned 350cc winner on-board his Trak Plus Jawa ahead of Neil Taylor and Ricky Sandford.
The showpiece was the 500cc solos and 2x European Champion James Shanes was on scintillating form and completed a four-ride maximum, edging out young guns Jake Mulford and Chad Wirtzfield.
Dave Hammond collected his third Southern Centre accolade in the Pre-75 class with Garry Finlow and Gary Kirtley-Paine completing the podium.
On three wheels pre-event favourites – Mark Courtney & Leon Torres – won the Sidecars Old & New with Terry Saunters & Liam Brown triumphant in the Right-Handed Sidecars.
