It all starts with founder Lauren Williams being adventurous and spontaneously purchasing a bike for one of her birthdays and falling in love with the sport, never looking back! Lauren joined her partner who also rides and helps out at their local enduro club, having his and other great male friends support at the tracks. Lauren then went on to look for other females in the sport to network and ride with and had a look online but had no real luck in finding much support for British women riding communities.
It was then, that Lauren created a supportive community, to bring women together who share the passion of riding dirt bikes in motocross and enduro: Dirt Bike Girls UK.
Dirt Bike Girls UK was established in 2018 and has since quickly grown within the riding community, attracting many girls from beginners to pro’s, enduro and motocross- all are openly and warm-heartedly welcomed! Dirt Bike Girls UK has grown organically with a big following on Facebook and Insta, because there is a need for more support for girls and this just shows that when girls stick together and support one another, inspiring things can happen!
So far, the impact that Dirt Bike Girls UK has had on the sport includes:
- Ladies training day camps– MX camp with Lee Dunham at LDR Training Facility, suitable for mixed abilities with limited spaces available to make sure that you are getting quality training time and able to socialize with all the girls. This is a 2-day camp, where day 1 is focused on learning and skills building from coaches and day 2 you put what you have learnt together into practice on the track. More events and dates coming soon in 2021- keep an eye out for MX and Enduro events!
- Practice events for a day on the enduro track– meeting up with other female riders. Suitable for riders 16 years plus and hosted by Mercian Dirt Riders.
- MX track day hire– suitable for beginners to intermediates and open to male support riders. Private use of the track for the day to get more comfortable with less riders on the track, taking the intimidation factor away.
Going forward, Lauren’s goal is to create and host more events, keeping the momentum of previous success going and continually offering support and growth for girls who ride. Previous event attenders include Lottie Taylor, Chloe Elliott, Jasmine Pullen, Abbie Faulkner, Jennifer Davies and Faye Aston to name a few.
Dirt Bike Girls UK is a platform to inspire more girls into the sport of riding dirt bikes, getting more girls supported and acknowledged too. There is a new rider profile section on the Dirt Bike Girls UK website, where female riders are able to create and upload their rider profile for more industry people to see, also creating awareness for sponsors. Girls in the sport are able to network and inspire one another and also share best practice tips and advise, like what kit/gear suits our bodies better or where to get your suspension lowered if your feet don’t touch the floor.
