Talon Engineering Ltd is a family run business, that for over forty five years, has been a part of many historical moments in a handful of different motor sports..  At its start Talon primarily manufactured hubs for speedway and grass track and, after increasing success, the company rapidly expanded hub production to include the motocross market. As well as their renowned hubs and wheels, Talon is also well known in the industry for their sprockets, now covering an enormous range, including road bikes.

Talon’s Managing Director Rob Sartin is no stranger to the industry, he has been with the company for over 20 years himself and has heavily influenced the company’s progression. Rob brings with him a wealth of experience having enjoyed a highly successful riding career, competing at World championship level in both Trials and Enduro, winning 2 British Junior Trials crowns and two  British Enduro titles.

Today, Talon now work out of a 40,000 square foot state of the art factory with more than fifty full-time staff.  Part of their evolution includes a continual investment in new technology such as rapid prototype machining and Solidworks 3D design which allows them to make the best products in the industry.  Their numbers don’t lie either, well over 100 world champions from the world of motocross, enduro, speedway and road racing have used Talon products!  In fact, walking into the wheel assembly room at their HQ in Yeovil, UK provides you with a who’s who of champions.  Jerseys from the likes of Chad Reed, Steve Holcombe, Jason Anderson and Shaun Simpson adorn the walls.

“Back in ’99 when I won the US open SX, I used Talon wheelsets on my YZ250, so it’s no surprise to me that they continue to the be choice of many of the top teams in racing today.” – Jeff Emig

Talon produce hubs and wheel assembly to suit every rider and every price point, from their EVO BILLET range – providing a hub for those riders needing reliability and good looks at an affordable price – through to their Ultralite, Pro Billet and Carbon hubs.

With a proven track record of over 20 years of race wins the Pro-Billet Hub is one of Talon’s most popular offerings. Today, Talon exports their popular products to thirty-five countries, with distributors all over the world, in Europe, the United States of America, Japan and Australia. In fact, over seventy percent of their business lies in the export market meaning they truly are world renowned as the best money can buy, be it the billet alloy hub or the all new carbon fibre centred grand prix racing hub, Talon hubs are the strongest, lightest and are produced in the largest model and colour range on the market.

New partnerships

Whilst many people may be aware of Talons products, you may not be aware that they have also introduced products for other disciplines as well, in recent years.

More recently, 2014 in fact, Talon were awarded preferred machining supplier status from The Ariel Motor Company.  Ariel, perhaps most well-known for it’s Ariel Atom sports car, wanted to go back to its roots and create a two-wheel equivalent of the Atom, called the Ariel Ace.

The Ace’s frame design is as iconic as the Atom’s and it is this frame that has been realised through the work of Talon’s engineers!  Milled from solid billet, each frame requires over 70 hours of machining time to form the sevens pieces required to form the frame assembly; it is then welded by hand; hard anodised; to form a piece of engineering that is a structural masterpiece but also a work of art.

The Frame is machined from a solid 150 kg billet of aluminium and the wing spars, once fully machined, weigh just 6.5 kg thanks to the efficient metal removal!
